Portrait of Marguerite de Flandre 3 (1350 - 1405) Duchesse de Bourgogne
This tapestry is based on a portrait exhibited in Lille, and includes many different techniques, threads, and stitches. The tapestry is mounted in a gilded frame.
The painting is believed to be from the 16th century, based on an older version.
She was very wealthy due to the wool industry in Flanders and her inheritance. Her second husband was Philippe the Bold, Duke of Burgundy and brother to the King of France. Philippe gave her a castle to decorate and remodel to her taste, the chateau de Germolles near Chalon sur Saone in Burgundy - this is well worth a visit.
